Shape:
Definition- An element of art that is enclosed and defined by lines, color, value and/or texture. Amorphous: Definition- Shapeless/irregular form. Biomorphic form: Definition- Abstract, organic form, rather than geometric. More curvy than linear. Geometric: Definition- Shape/form typically composed of straight lines or shapes from geometry (circles, triangles, etc.). Organic: Definition- Irregular shape, one that may be found in nature. Regular: Definition- Evenly formed/arranged, such as circles and squares. Gestalt: Definition- An arrangement of elements where the artworks individual properties cannot be determined when viewed as a whole. Principles of design/art: Definition- The choice and arrangement of elements, used to control the look of the artwork. Value: Definition- The lightness or darkness of a color. Achromatic: Definition- Black, white and grays only. Shading: Definition- Shows change from light to dark in order to help define an element and give the illusion of depth dimension. Chiaroscuro: Definition- Using different values to show light and shade. Modeling: Definition- The effect of light on a three-dimensional form. The form is emphasized by light, shadow and color. Texture: Definition- The surface quality or "feel" of an object, how rough, smooth or soft it is. Collage: Definition- Placing many different flat images, such as from magazines, on to a flat surface to create a picture. Montage: Definition- A single image created by overlapping many images. Proportion: Definition- The relationship in size or amounts of one object compared to another in a work of art. Visual scale: Definition- The size of elements of a work of art. Architecture: Definition- An accurate representation of the size of an object in a work of art compared to the actual size. |
