Hue:
Definition- The name of a color in it's original state. Saturation: Definition- The intensity of a hue, deep color compared to pale color. Intensity: Definition- The brightness or dullness of a hue/color. Primary colors: Definition- Red, yellow and blue. Used to create all other colors of the spectrum. Secondary colors: Definition-The colors created by mixing equal amounts of two primary colors. Intermediate (tertiary) colors: Definition- Colors produced my mixing unequal amounts of two primary colors. Tint: Definition- A soft and light color, created when white is added to a color. Shade: Definition- A darker color created when black is mixed in. Color scheme: Definition- A specific set of colors that are used in a work of art and generally work together in a harmonious way. Analogous colors: Definition- Any two or more colors that are right next to each other on the color wheel. Monochromatic: Definition- Consisting of only a single color/hue (includes tints and shades). Triad: Definition- Three colors that are equally spaced on the color wheel. Complementary colors: Definition- Colors that are directly opposite each other on the color wheel. Split compliments: Definition- One color plus the two colors that are on either side of it's compliment on the color wheel. Neutral: Definition- A color not associated with a hue, such as brown, black gray and white. Warm colors: Definition- Having the feel of a warm "temperature", often associated with fire and the sun. Cool colors: Definition- Having the feel of a cool "temperature", often associated with water, the sky, and winter. Naturalism: Definition- An artistic style when the artist attempts to very accurately and precisely represent the subject as it appears in nature. |
